About Miami Lakes:
Created in the early 1960's, the original Miami Lakes was the idea and vision of the Graham family and the result of a Master Plan for urban development designed by L. Collins, Dean of the Harvard School of Architecture. Houses were built on a curving network of streets narrow enough to avoid fast driving, with children parks every 25-30 houses.
In 1984 a town center was constructed, a mixed-use boulevard of restaurants, a hotel, shops on the ground level with apartments and offices above, all of this a short walk from the residential areas.
Miami Lakes was incorporated in December, 2000, becoming one of 34 municipalities in Miami-Dade County. The Graham Company still manages and develops real estate in the area. The community is today one of the most desirable areas of South Florida, real estate in Miami Lakes have increased value faster than all surrounding areas.

The community now features winding tree-shaded streets, and numerous curving lakes, which are unusual compared to most surrounding areas with treeless streets on a square grid and rectangular lakes. Lakefront real estate attracts many buyers, although the community's lifestyle makes real estate in the area very desirable.
The original development, which is on the east side of the more recently designated Town of Miami Lakes, has neighborhood shopping centers, tot-lot parks, and a town center named Main Street with restaurants, shops, a multiplex movie theater, and the many amenities of Don Shula's Hotel. Our community also features the Don Shula's Golf Course (18 holes), hosting tournaments and events all year.
